OneNote MX mutates into OneNote in the Store
What do you know, there is an update in the Store to my number one App: OneNote, and I missed it completely. Thanks to the Eagle-Eye of my buddy @Windows4Live who caught this in the Store and tipped me. Thanks mate.
As you can see, OneNote has dropped the MX, no more OneNoteMX but just OneNote, and it has also dropped the Preview predicate. It is now a full Metro App from Microsoft having gone through the stringent quality process of Microsoft obviously. I was using this metro version initially, but the pen on the version was not good, and I was creating artifacts on my notes arbitrarily, so I went back to the Desktop version. Now they’ve add the option to this version to turn-off the auto-zoom while using the pen. I guess they are still struggling with turning off the touch when the Pen is in the vicinity of the glass. I really do hope they fix this in the future, palm-rejection in the Desktop version is just marvelous!
In the meantime, I am taking this new version for a spin, if I notice anything new I’ll let you know in an update to this post. In the meantime I’ll leave you with the following:

Hello, I’m a OneNote lover too! Right now I have a Samsung ATIV tablet with windows 8 (not RT) and I’m using the handwriting in onenot MX and desktop versions. In onenote MX it work perfect with the “auto-zoom” off but we haven’t all the pen functionality like colors, etc so I move to desktop version. Do you know can I emulate the “auto-zoom off” in the desktop version?
Hello Esteban,
This is my dilemma too with the OneNote MX. I love to use as much MX Apps as possible, so I am waiting for MS to built out the features of OneNote MX. What we have now is just first iteration of the App, more awesome is coming down the pipe.
There is no autoZ now on the desktop, hopefully with future updates, but Desktop version has palm rejection so we may not have that much trouble there.
Keep me updated with you OneNote adventure. Glad to meet another Pen freak. :)
Hi,
I downloaded OneNote-for my samsung slate running windows 8, and it will not let me sketch with the pen. It will only let me use the pen in the handwriting recognition zone. I know the pen works because I can sketch in “Note Anytime” a competiting app. Ideas?
Hi Joe,
I am a Pen buff too, and I have been Using OneNote (MX) without issues including pen notes. I really don’t know what issues you are having. You should be able to jot your notes on the MX page without issues as long as the system recognizes your pen.
Can you have a look under your system settings and see if the system is reporting both Touch and Pen.
Note that the MX version right now doesn’t have the full pen support like the Desktop version. It is still a work in progress. We only have for now basic pen function at the moment.
